An unlikely encounter with some members of Xylona’s Flock changed his life. The raging troll had been seriously wounded when he was discovered by a patrol of rangers. Seeing the pain he was in, the rangers convinced him to allow them to heal him.  As they worked, one of the dwarves lit a pipe. Hongo was curious and the dwarf shared. Hongo had found his calling in life.  After he recovered, the massive forest troll found a decent place to set up a small homestead in the woods not too far from the rangers’ western outpost. The dwarf and some others taught the giant how to grow different plants to use for his new pipe. Occasionally teenage denizens will dare one another to visit Hongo. The teacher had a book shelf we could select things from and I read this comic every time. It was the comic adaptation of of Disney's "The Black  Cauldron." Later that year I got the paperback novel from the Scholastic Book orders. (And I never saw the actual animation until I was in university.) I couldn't finish it. It scared me too much. And it was nothing like the comic. The Horned King had already been defeated in "The Book of Three," which I didn't even know was a thing at the time.
